life and love

A Happy 2009 everyone! Hope you had a great festive season and are
ready to get things going this year.

I am looking forward to this year as 2008 didn't go as well as planned
and it looks like the UK will not be home. So i am now living each day knowing
I'll soon be saying 'Bye'

I've discovered a lot of material on my laptop that I want to share with people
this year.

Speak soon

Just Do It!

That's from Nike, right? Well I'm actually saying that to myself.
But to do what? To....write.

I completed my MA in Creative and Professional Writing, hoping it could help
me get into entry-level medical writing. Well it hasn't. So I'm going to find
easier doors to open. Writing is writing, whether it's a blog entry or an interesting e-mail :). This doesn't mean that I'm giving up on medical writing.
I actually have found another way to get in....via the backdoor.

So what do we learn?
If there is an 'obstacle' in your way, just find a way around it. Be open to other ways (maybe unconventional) of reaching your destination. And enjoy the journey.

Is it already February?

Just yesterday I was setting goals for 2008 and now it's already February! Time sure moves. Oh, and by the way, Happy Valentine's Day. I am not particularly into the whole
thing but I guess it doesn't hurt anyone to have a day to celebrate love.

That actually gets me thinking about this blog. I called it life and love, but I seem to forget the later more often than not. Ummh....guess I could give out some advice on love (the little that I know lol). Come to think of it, I do have some material I can share. So watch the space...Auntie Joy has landed...finally :)

Have a great day everyone and love everyone around you regardless. Remember we are all ONE.

I'm evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they're letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I'll let you know what I think once I've had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it's still free.

Let me keep you up to date with what has been happening since I last blogged:

1) I finally got in touch with my ex and are on talking terms now: I prefer ending relationships amicably. No need to burn bridges. Though the relationship is officially over, I am quite pleased to be his friend.

2) My goal of having 6-pack abs is becoming a reality. All those exercises are paying off as I can
now feel the muscle and I can see distinct definition of the muscle when I look in the mirror. Yay!

3) Have managed to live on a mostly vegetable diet since beginning of the year. It can be done.

4) A good friend from home gave me a loan, just at the right time. So for now, I'm ok financially.

5) The boring bit now: it's time for me to write my assignments which are due at the end of March. Booo! Wish I could just play throughout- in my dreams.

6) I decided to go back to the Catholic church and attended my first service on Sunday. I am happy.

Now you are up to speed with me. I should make it a goal to blog regularly.

Found this article on some blog. It does make sense and is food for thought on a Monday.

"We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers;
wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints;
we spend more, but have less;
we buy more, but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families;
more conveniences, but less time;
we have more degrees, but less common sense;
more knowledge, but less judgement;
more experts, but more problems;
more medicine, but less wellness.
We spend too recklessly, laugh to little;
drive too fast, get too angry too quickly;
stay up too late, get up too tired;
read too seldom, watch TV too much;
and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values;
we talk too much, love too seldom and lie too often;
we've learned how to make a living, but not a life;
we've added years to life, but not life to years;
we've been all the way to the moon and back,but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space;
we've done larger things, but not better things;
we've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul;
we've split the atom, but not our prejudice;
we write more, but learn less;
plan more, accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait;
we have higher incomes, but lower morals;
more food but less appeasement;
more acquaintances, but fewer friends;
more effort but less success.
We build more computers to hold more information;produce more copies than ever, but have less communication;
we've become long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are the times of fast food and slow digestions;
tall men and short character;
steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare;
more leisure and less fun;
more kinds of food, but less nutrition.
These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce;
of fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers;
throw away morality, one night stands,
overweight bodies and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the show window, and nothing in the stock room."

I have survived the first week of the term and managed to submit my assignments on time. In two weeks I'll know how I've done. Hope I'll get good marks but whatever I get it's ok, as I'd have to make up in the remaining assignments. We've started the professional writing module and I really enjoyed the seminar. I think we are blessed to have a brilliant teacher like Maria.She's very inspiring and enthusiastic so I look foward to her classes this term. Having said that there is a lot of work in the horizon: research for my project and now 2 assignments every week. I guess this is what postgrad is all about. Aaarrghhh!!

And my bank balance is getting less and less. Time to go to work I guess. Anyone with a job for me ? I've learnt that for anything to happen, I have to act. So I'll print out more CV's and start job hunting seriously. Just thinking about it won't make it happen. But I'm not a bit worried because all my life God has always provided for me , so I am certain He will do it again and just on time. Faith, have faith.

My camera has been lying idle. I have made decision to make more use of it and take as many photos as I can, so tomorrow I'm going to buy a battery charger and start a new hobby. I do enjoy taking photos. What I need to learn is to carry the camera with me wherever I go. So in the near future I will be posting some pics on this blog.
